The songs for "Blue Motel" were written over a six month period. I had found a Yamaha Portatone portable keyboard at a yard sale for $15 several years earlier, and it had sat in the corner of my studio for a few years covered with cables, books, guitar strings, etc. I finally plugged it in and thought it sounded cool and was fun to play with. I used it on all these songs along with some old acoustic guitars and recorded everything to a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder that I have had for 24 years.

It was mastered by my friend Richard Dodd in Nashvlle, Tennessee. Richard has done a lot of great engineering and production work over the years with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Neil Young and the Traveling Wilburys.
